In 2024, I DJ-ed at more events than I have in a long time! Getting back in the groove of researching music, nerding out about dope finds, and meeting more creative people has been incredibly invigorating. Its served as a reminder that music has always been and continues to be a transportive and healing medium. I’m thrilled to highlight a handful of local producers and DJs I’ve come to know through their work.
Ari B
I’m grateful for landing on an Eid party line-up in April 2024 with Ari because that was the beginning of a fantastic friendship! Most recently, I saw them live score the experimental performance Magma from Post:ballet in San Francisco, and it was stunning. I’m a fan of their skills behind the decks, as well as their choice selections, uplifting electronic music from Arab, Iranian, and Asian artists.
OMJ Vinyls
I had the pleasure of opening an event where OMJ Vinyls was headlining back in December of 2024. We had the biggest nerd out moment over our vintage vinyl collections from our respective motherlands! And I have a lot of respect for them as an archivist of music from Afghanistan, Iran, and Central Asia.
Kush Arora
I appreciate the organizers of Arwah Collective for putting me onto Kush Arora’s artistry in producing music, as well as DJ-ing magnificently. Listening to his tracks makes me feel like I’m in an episode of People Just Do Nothing.
